One of the most visible and viable programs for Charlotte public housing and Section 8 housing residents is the Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund (CHASF).
The CHASF serves as a vehicle of hope to all young people who live in Charlotte's conventional public housing communities with the desire to achieve, but who lack adequate financial means. It is designed to inspire them to work toward becoming independent, self-reliant citizens of the community, by lending a helping hand. It does so by offering financial aid and guidance to any young resident under 25 years of age attending or planning to attend college, technical, or vocational school. The "average" annual scholarship award is $1,900 with a current maximum of $3,400 per year.
A hand up, not a hand out, is what CHASF offers!
